Greater Sudbury residents who have an opinion about public health are invited to step up and say how they believe the health unit should carry out its work in the next three to five years.

Starting July 20, and up until the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on Aug. 4, Public Health Sudbury & Districts (PHSD) will be conducting an online opinion survey that is designed to provide guidance on public health issues

René Lapierre,  chair of the PHSD Board of Health, said the board has already talked with various community leaders on what public health priorities should be, but the board also wants to hear from the public.

“Our Strategic Plan guides how Public Health works with municipalities and community partners to promote and protect health and prevent disease within our diverse communities,” said Lapierre.

“Since April, we have engaged with members of the Board of Health, Public Health staff, and some community partners to update the Strategic Plan, and now we want to hear from community members and other partner agencies,” he added.

Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, the region’s chief medical officer of health, said in a news release that having members of the public complete the survey will give the health unit a sense of what the public regards as important.

“Public Health provides a wide range of public health programs and services, and the Strategic Plan is the blueprint that outlines how that work gets done in communities, with residents, and with partner agencies,” said Sutcliffe.

“Everyone is encouraged to complete the survey to help us affirm the strategic priorities and values that will guide our work over the next 3 to 5 years,” said Sutcliffe.
