Rainbow Schools have once again joined forces to fight hunger and feed hope this holiday season by participating in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.
From festive concerts and spirit days, to community canvasses and FooDARE challenges, Rainbow Schools took every opportunity to gather donations in support of this worthy cause.
In total, Rainbow Schools collected 38,390 food items and $63,638.41 in monetary donations for area food banks, which translates into more than 420,220 food items for families in need.
“Year after year, our staff and students work tirelessly to support individuals and families in the communities that we serve,” said Director of Education Bruce Bourget, in a press release.
“Through initiatives such as the food drive, students are learning values that contribute to Rainbow District School Board’s mission of enabling students to become confident, caring members of society.
“We are extremely grateful to those who gave so generously – at a time when it’s needed most. This was a true community effort and we thank those who made this year’s campaign another tremendous success
“Donations will support food banks in the jurisdictions served by the Board - benefiting students and families in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island.”
Bourget thanked Brad Smith, Vice-Principal of Confederation Secondary School, for leading this campaign in Rainbow schools.
He also acknowledged the staff and students of Churchill Public School for launching a FooDARE Challenge as a fun and creative way to engage schools and increase donations.\
