Raising the Roof for Toque Tuesday

The Sudbury Action Centre for Youth is set to once again raise the roof on Toque Tuesday.

SACY will play host to the second annual event as part of the Raising the Roof national campaign. It takes place Feb. 5, an event designed to raise awareness for the homeless in participating communities.

A free pancake breakfast from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at 105 Elm St. Will kick off the day. Not interested in pancakes? Purchase a toque for $10.

Wearing a toque shows support for the Raising the Roof campaign. All proceeds from the sale of toques will go towards supporting the youth in the community.

Raising the Roof has supported some 145 community agencies with approximately $3.3 million in grants to support their continual work of helping the homeless in communities coast to coast.

Eighty per cent of the proceeds raised during the campaign will remain in Sudbury and will be put toward the continuation of the programs offered at the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth. These programs include counselling and support, assistance with housing, and recreational activities, all at no charge.

The remaining 20 per cent will go to the Raising the Roof campaign to discover long-term solutions to homelessness.

Since 1986, the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth has had their doors open to people in need. The Centre offers a youth drop-in program to youth between the ages of 16 to 24.

Some of the services offered are a housing support worker, an award winning peer mentoring program, trained youth workers, and recreational activities at no charge.
