Raw video: Doug Jr. on the hustings brings Ford Nation populism to Sudbury

In 30-minute speech, Ford rails against sex ed. curriculum, fixing health care and how much he loves 'scrapper' like Sudbury candidate Troy Crowder

Ontario Progressive Conservative Party leadership race candidate Doug Ford made a stop at the Caruso Club in Sudbury on Feb. 27.

Speaking to a crowd of close to 200 people, the former Toronto city councillor and mayoral candidate hammered on the point that this June's election is one of the most critical in the province's history.

"Kathleen Wynne is gone, I've never seen an election that ... she's gone that's a given, everywhere I'm going I'm hearing 'she's gone'," said Ford.

"We're going to have a choice between the same old insiders, the political elite, the cronyism, or Liberal light like my competitors are."

Ford vowed to "sanitize Queen's Park" and put money back into taxpayers' pockets. He also gave a nod to Sudbury PC candidate Troy Crowder, who was in attendance for the evening's rally, pledging his dedication to helping Crowder win the Sudbury riding come the June 7 election.

"I don't know Troy that well but he's a down-to-earth guy, he's a team player, he's a scrapper and I love scrappers," said Ford. "He will fight for the people, he's not the insider, he's not the political elite and those are the guys I want on my team."

During his nearly 30-minute speech, Ford also touched on the province's health care system, an education system that he says is "failing Ontario's kids" mentioning that he was dead against the province's sex education curriculum that was introduced under the Wynne government in 2015.

Now that former leader Patrick Brown has backed out of the race, in the running to become leader of the Ontario Conservatives are Ford, Christine Elliott, Caroline Mulroney and Tanya Granic Allen.
