Remembrance Day ceremonies will be happening across the city on Nov. 11, with both indoor and outdoor services taking place.

For the first time since 2019, there will be a ceremony at the Sudbury Community Arena hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76.

The doors open at 9 a.m. and the service will begin at 10:30 a.m. The parade will be formed inside the arena.

On their social media, Branch 76 states they will have a free bus leaving the branch around 9 a.m. Attendees are asked to register with the Legion for the bus, as spots are limited.

The Royal Canadian Legion Lockerby Branch 564 will be hosting a cenotaph parade at their new cenotaph at 2 p.m. Lockerby’s parade starts at 2 p.m.

Former Petty Officer First Class Mike Jensen of the Sudbury Area Veterans group told Sudbury.com that their ceremony will be outside, and include a tour of the other memorial sites in town, all with free bus transportation.

The Sudbury Area Veterans group represents many who participated in United Nations or NATO deployments, said Jensen, and “many of us have been abroad multiple times in our service.” Jensen said members have service histories that range from “local, helping out here with the reserve unit, right up to current members of the Canadian Armed Forces.”

A bus for the members and their family and friends will leave Branch 564 of the Legion, stopping at the civic cemetery on Second Avenue for a short ceremony there before making their way to the Afghanistan memorial wall at the corner of Lasalle and Notre Dame.

“Quite a number of us served with the names on that wall,” said Jensen.

The group will then be headed to the Memorial Park Cenotaph for an 11 a.m. outdoor ceremony.

The public is more than welcome to attend this part.

After the event downtown, the Sudbury Area Veterans will then join the public ceremony at Branch 564 at 2 p.m.
