Research projects at Laurentian University are getting a $1.3-million injection from the federal government.

The university is also getting another $500,000 in grants and scholarships for students, Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre announced this week.

The money comes from a $465-million announcement made by Science Minister Kirsty Duncan back on June 23. The funds will go to more than 4,000 awards born of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) 2016 competition for the discovery research programs.

At Laurentian, NSERC grants will fund research projects and student researchers in engineering, biology, chemistry, earth sciences and human kinetics.
