Following a report from the Rainbow District School Board's Administrative Council recommending the closure of three Walden area schools and to combine them into one large school to be located in the Lively area, a group of concerned parents is speaking out.

Whitefish native Leena Luopa is part of   a handful of people who want to put a stop to at least one of the proposed closures at R. H. Murray Public School, which is home to approximately 110 students.

They met on Jan. 4 at the Beaver Lake Cultural Center to discuss their strategy.

Meanwhile, the board has scheduled a meeting for Monday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 pm in the Council Chambers at Tom Davies Square. That's when the board will hear more public input related to the accommodation review for not only R.H. Murray Public School, but also Warren Central Public School, and Sudbury west area schools, including Copper Cliff Public School, George Vanier Public School, Jessie Hamilton Public School, and Lively District Secondary School. There are already about 15 presentations on the agenda, according to the board's senior advisor of corporate communications and strategic planning, Nicole Charette; each with a maximum time allowance of ten minutes for each presentation.

However, a final decision regarding the accommodation of students at Warren Central Public School and in Sudbury West won't be made until the board meets again on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 in Lockerby Composite School's auditorium.
