The River & Sky Music/Camping Festival is just around the bend — coming up this July 20 to 23 — and looking for more volunteers of all ages and abilities.

The festival, set on the Sturgeon River at Fishers’ Paradise in the community of Field, features close to 40 emerging indie bands over its four days, including headliners Wintersleep, Timber Timbre, PUP, and Weaves.

Each year, River & Sky relies on the relentless energy and diverse talents of its member-volunteers to make the festival happen. People like artist Hobby Rollin, who is volunteering by painting a mural on a 1970s camper that has been converted by the festival into a riverside sauna.

“Volunteering for my friends every year at River & Sky feels like self-care," said Rollin. "That’s how important the festival has become to me. They don’t take more than you can comfortably give, and they never take without asking."

The festival is looking to fill spots in artist hospitality, merchandise, welcome gate, venue development, and other areas. It’s simple to sign up and become a River & Sky member, just visit the website www.riverandsky.ca and click "Volunteer."

  • Volunteers can arrive a day early, on July 19, for orientation, to set up their campsite, and enjoy a volunteer party on the beach with bands. Membership ($25) required.
  • To receive a free pass to the festival, volunteer nine hours during or 18 in advance.
  • Each volunteer receives a buff made by Sew Local, free breakfasts, and additional meals.
  • Questions about volunteering? Roxanne at [email protected].
