Sudbury's Rock City Auto Supplies collected more tires than anyone else in a province-wide fundraiser.

The tire collection was part of the annual Tire Take Back event, hosted by Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association (OARA), with support from Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) and Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA).

Rock City Auto Supplies collected an astounding amount of tires, resulting in $26,238 raised for the Sunshine Foundation of Canada, fulfilling the dreams of children with severe physical disabilities and life-threatening illnesses.

This year, over the first six days of June, Rock City Auto Supplies collected 14,837 tires out of a total 62,891* tires across the province, the highest number out of all 60 participating OARA members across Ontario.

There will be an official cheque presentation to Sunshine Foundation, taking place on Thursday, July 23rd at 10 a.m. at Rock City Auto Supplies.

In case you're wondering where all of those tires are going to end up, they may get transformed into sustainable products for a community space in your area.

OTS is offering communities across Ontario up to $50,000 in grants through their Community Renewal Fund to build or renew spaces using sustainable materials made with recycled Ontario tire rubber.
