Ward 1 Councillor Joe Cimino has agreed to replace Ron Dupuis on the city's planning committee.
Dupuis, the councillor for Ward 5, announced his resignation from the committee Feb. 6 citing his poor health. He suffered a minor heart attack July 4, 2006.
However, he suggested there may be other reasons.
"I think planning committee members seem to want to go in a different direction than I do, so it's best if I'm not in the way," he said.
When asked if there was any friction between the members of the planning committee, Dupuis said:
"When it comes to planning, it's a very complicated issue, you have to deal with the application that is before you. That is what you have to base your arguments on. You can't base your argument on what ifs. It's a process that is very different in regards to any other decision we make along the council table."
Cimino's first planning committee meeting is Feb. 20.
