The 11th edition of the French book fair and literary festival Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury takes place at Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury, May 9-12.
The book fair’s theme is "Head in the clouds, reading elevates us." The official poster of the Salon depicts three charming hot air balloon characters carrying objects evoking the sweet and precious moments that one indulges in by letting themselves be transported into the world of books.
The Salon du livre will be held under the honorary presidency of Natasha Kanapé Fontaine, Innu writer, poet and multidisciplinary artist.
Her artistic approach aims to bring people together through art, writing, performance, and dialogue, thereby promoting sharing, respect, and exchange between cultures.
At the Salon du livre, the audience will have the opportunity to attend her slam poetry and song performance, which has resonated on Quebec stages in recent years.
Additionally, they will be able to meet her in a one-on-one discussion with literature professor Isabella Huberman, as well as during a literary tea with other Indigenous writers.
The 11th Salon du livre will welcome around 50 authors to discover.
These include Pierre Labrie, Melchior Mbonimpa, Xénia Gould and Dyane Léger.
The public will have the opportunity to meet these authors and many others within the framework of a stimulating and varied program: evening performances, literary teas, happy hours, discussions, round tables, interviews, artistic animations, and much more. As always, there will be an impressive display of books from numerous Canadian and international publishers and distributors available for sale on-site.
