Despite today's late March winter storm, the city's school buses will pick up students as usual this afternoon, but parents might want to be prepared for delays.

“We've had to deal with this many times over this winter, where a big bulk of the snow comes in when our children are already at school,” said Renée Boucher, executive director of the Sudbury Student Services Consortium, which operates school buses for the city's four school boards.

Boucher said the consortium will look at road conditions throughout the day, and will inform parents in case of delays in some areas.

“We often have areas where we have issues, such as Tilton Lake Road,” she said.

In areas where snow build-up and clearing has been problematic, Boucher said parents are already aware to expect potential bus delays.

Boucher said there have been more than three instances this winter where significant amounts of snow fell during the school day.

“For us it's just a normal winter day,” she said.
