Science North is about to undergo its most extensive renovations to date.
Improvements will be made throughout the 26-year-old science centre, including interior and exterior building repairs, a new 4D show to be added to the Vale Inco Cavern and an updated climate change object theatre will be built.
The biggest change will be seen on the third floor though. The level will still showcase northern Ontario ecosystems, but in a more interactive fashion.
“New experiences” will help visitors learn what its like to be a moose with a rack of antlers, watch nocturnal animals in a night time setting and help evaluate the health of Ramsey Lake, according to a press release from Science North.
“Fresh, new exhibits and the latest science will provide visitors to Science North with engaging, diverse and memorable experiences that will entice them to return time and time again,” Jim Marchbank, Science North CEO, stated.
While the renovations are underway, animals will be housed in the Science Exhibits Hall where visitors can learn about them from Oct. 1 to Jan. 3, 2011. The third floor will be closed as of Sept. 25.
In order to incorporate the “wide scope of construction,” the science centre's annual shutdown will be extended from Jan. 3, 2001 until March 3, 2011.
