SDHU launches Environmental Public Health Week

Environmental Public Health Week, Jan.

Environmental Public Health Week, Jan. 14 to 20, recognizes the hard work of certified public health inspectors and environmental health officers across Canada and the importance of environmental health programs to our health care system, said a news release.

To increase public awareness of the role these front-line professionals play in the health of their communities, the Sudbury & District Health Unit (SDHU) is setting up information displays at the following locations across Greater Sudbury:

- Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Southridge Mall.
- Wednesday, Jan. 16 at the New Sudbury Centre
- Thursday, Jan. 17 at Place Bonaventure Mall
- Friday, Jan. 18 at the Rainbow Centre

A public health inspector will be available from 9 am to 3 pm at each location to answer questions from the public.

Information displays will also be set up at the SDHU branch offices in Chapleau, Espanola, Mindemoya and St. Charles.

Environmental health professionals work to protect the public from environmental hazards that affect daily life. They provide services in a number of areas including food safety, air and drinking water quality, rabies control, outbreak management and prevention of foodborne illnesses.

Environment Public Health Week is a national campaign by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.

For more information, phone the SDHU at 522-9200.
