With a second suspicious fire affecting the same Orell Street residential building in Garson, a police investigation is ongoing.

As of mid-day Dec. 22, Greater Sudbury police reported that no arrests had been made.

The first incident took place on Nov. 13, and the second fire took place Dec. 20.

Police were first dispatched to the scene of a “suspicious fire” at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Nov. 13, Greater Sudbury police reported at the time.

Firefighters had determined the fire to be suspicious, and police report that prior to the alarm alerting residents to the fire, “an unknown suspicious person dressed in dark clothing was seen in the vicinity of the building.”

No one was injured in this initial incident, but there was damage to the building.

The second incident took place at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Dec. 20, a police spokesperson told Sudbury.com, when police were dispatched to the same residential building.

A fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived, and firefighters again determined the fire to be suspicious.

There was minimal damage to the residence and no injuries were reported, according to police.

Greater Sudbury Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Division is working with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office in their ongoing investigation.
