The Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary of the Send-A-Kid-To-Camp Program with a 40th Annual Send A Kid To Camp Gala.
The event will be held at the Caruso Club on Nov. 3.
The Send-A-Kid-To-Camp Program provides children who would not otherwise be able to attend the opportunity to go to summer camp.
“The program was initiated for families who cannot afford to send their children to summer camp or even children living in violent or abusive households,” the foundation said in a news release. “The program has assisted approximately 20,000 disadvantaged children and helped them experience the joys of summer camp since its initiation in 1984.”
The Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation is also asking those who have benefited from the Send-A-Kid-To-Camp program to contact the foundation if they would be willing to share their camp experience and what it meant to them at the gala, so attendees understand the real impact the program has on people’s lives.
Since 1976, the Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation has served marginalized children and their families in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts.
The foundation has three programs: Send-A-Kid-To-Camp, PLAY, and Bursary Programs.
“Each program is aimed at helping create positive experiences for at-risk youth,” the foundation stated. “Youth are referred to the programming through over 50 referral agencies such as the Children's Aid Society, Ontario Works, and the Children’s Mental Health Association.”
