French Immersion students in Grades 6 to 8 and their parents and guardians are invited to a Jan. 18 interactive information session about French Immersion in Rainbow District School Board secondary schools.

Everyone in Greater Sudbury is welcome, regardless of which elementary school students currently attend.

The session takes place from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Laurentian University West Residence Building, located at 935 Ramsey Lake Rd. Parking on site is free.

“Learning a second language enhances career choices, develops critical thinking and communication skills, and provides a greater appreciation of diversity,” Norm Blaseg, the school board's director of education.

“We encourage students and parents/guardians to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about French Immersion programming at the secondary level.”

The French Immersion Transition Evening is designed to help students make key decisions about their future.

A number of topics will be explored including course options, diploma requirements, career opportunities and available resources.

“It’s important that students take the time to explore all of their options,” Blaseg said.

“Experienced staff will be on hand to answer any questions students and parents/guardians may have. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to find out more about our exciting French Immersion programs and the doors they can open for the future.”
