Large local energy consumers to benefit from government program:

Sudbury MPP and Ontario Minister of Energy Glenn Thibeault announced Thursday that Ontario is supporting a number of organizations in Sudbury with measures to help reduce their electricity bills. Thibeault made the announcement on July 20 at Laurentian University, highlighting the benefits several local organizations will see as a result of the recent expansion of the Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI). Nova Scotia woman drives into ditch near French River:

A 26-year-old woman from Dartmouth, NS is facing a number of charges are driving her car off the road on Highway 69. On July 19 at around 5:30 p.m., members from the Sudbury OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 69, near Highway 607 in French River. Investigation revealed that a northbound vehicle left the roadway and entered the ditch on the east side of the roadway. It was also determined that the uninjured woman had consumed alcohol. Funding to help Northern Ontario youth find summer jobs:

The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, announced on July 20 that up to 213 students across Northern Ontario will have summer job opportunities thanks to more than $870,000 in Canada Summer Jobs funding. Ninety-three organizations that have committed to hire Indigenous students are making a difference in Indigenous communities and will be able to give youth across northern Ontario an opportunity to get meaningful work experience and save money to pay for school. Sudbury Gem and Mineral Show starts today:

The 35th annual Sudbury Gem and Mineral Show is coming up July 21 to 23 at the Carmichael Arena. Check out dealers, displays, demonstrations, door prizes (including amethyst geode grand door prize), silent auctions, kids activities, mineral and gemstone identification, video theatre, a field trip and more. The event, put on by the Sudbury Rock & Lapidary Society, runs 5-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, $1 for children aged six to 12 and free for children five and under.

Going the distance: Former Sudburian runs 906 km, sets record:

Former Sudburian Chantal Warriner is having some difficulty sleeping right now. And it comes as no surprise. After all, she recently ran more than 900 kilometres of the Bruce Trail in under 13 days. It was a grueling experience, and she was often running in the wee hours of the morning, but it was well worth it, she said, because she set a new fastest-known-time for women on the Bruce Trail at 12 days, 15 hours and 14 minutes.
