Irene Harris, executive vice-president of the Ontario Federation of Labour, will join striking workers in Sudbury on Thursday.

Harris is joining the workers to show her support for the contract demands of the thousands of women who work in the Ontario public service.

According to a press release from the Ontario Federation of Labour, 40 per cent of strikers are clerical workers in offices, courts, public health labs, detention centres and other critical areas. 84 per cent of these workers are women. As well, women account for two-thirds of the workers in temporary jobs without benefits or security.

The ?Sisters Step Up? slogan is being used to highlight the support and solidarity women, and others, have for women who work in the public service.

Aside from Sudbury, ?Sisters Step Up? events are confirmed for Hamilton, London, Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Toronto and Windsor.

The Sudbury event is scheduled from 11 am to 12:30 pm at 199 Larch Street. Harris will address the strikers at 11 am.
