For 25 years, Skakoon's Home Hardware has served the Donovan and beyond, with supplies for home maintenance, upgrades and repairs.

Owner Mike Skakoon said he purchased the building with intentions to turn it into a plumbing specialty store, but was persuaded to “throw the dice and jump in” to hardware retail.

Since then, Skakoon said service has been his secret to success.

“Customers are customers,” he said. “You have to treat them (well), and give them what they want — no nonsense. That's what keeps them coming back.”

The Skakoon family will hold a charity barbecue and host live entertainment during their 25th anniversary celebration from Aug. 19 to 21.

Skakoon said they will also give back to the customers who have supported them for the last 25 years by having a sale.
