The Sudbury Soils Study team is inviting feedback from the public following the publication of the Human Health Risk Assessment in May, said lead consultant Dr. Christopher Wren.

The formal comment period will end on July 31. But the study partners want to reassure residents that their questions and comments can be submitted informally well beyond that deadline (see below).

The study partners are the Sudbury and District Health Unit, the Ministry of the Environment, City of Greater Sudbury, Health Canada First Nations and Inuit Health, Vale Inco and Xstrata Nickel.

To be included in the formal comment period, all comments and questions must relate directly to the contents of the assessment. This is an opportunity for residents and other stakeholders to seek clarification of the methodologies, process and results contained in the report.

Residents with comments and questions related to risk management plans, provincial environmental policies, future sampling, or public health information can call toll free 1-866-315-0228.

After July 31, all qualifying comments and questions will be compiled, along with the responses, in an appendix to the HHRA report.  Copies of the appendix will also be sent directly to those who submitted a formal comment during the comment period.

Volume III of the Sudbury Soils Study, the Ecological Risk Assessment, will be released to the public later this year. The public will be invited to comment on this volume as well.
