Doug Ford named new Ontario Progressive Conservative party leader:

A heated battle for the reins of Ontario's Progressive Conservatives that exposed deep rifts within the party continued to smolder even after Doug Ford was crowned the new leader on Saturday.Party president Jag Badwal announced the results seven hours later than scheduled, saying the former Toronto city councillor had narrowly eked out a win over former provincial legislator Christine Elliott on the third ballot.But Elliott, who had made her third bid to lead the party, released a statement early Sunday morning alleging there had been "serious irregularities" in the vote and vowing to investigate further. Noah's memory lives on as residents fish for a cure:

Sudbury resident, Shawn Scott, had never imagined that his Fishing for a Cure Derby to help families like Noah Borgogelli's would be such a hit. Five years ago, Scott started the derby to raise funds to help his friends, Noah's parents, spend time with their sick child. He decided to take matters into his own hands. Now, the event raises funds that are donated to Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer. Read more on this story here 

Int'l Women's Day: Centre Victoria brings women together to paint and reflect:

To celebrate women all across the world and those at home Centre Victoria pour femmes organized a paint social today in honour of International Women's Week. International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 every year to honour women for their contributions to society. The day also commemorates the inspiring role of women around the world to secure women’s rights and build more equitable societies. It has been expanded to a full week in many places, including Ontario. Check out how the celebrations went down at this event here 


Winter made easy thanks to these snow angels:
If there’s a neighbour, friend or family member who makes your winter easier, you can now nominate them for a Ward 8 Snow Angel award. The only catch being the nominees must reside within the Ward 8 boundaries in New Sudbury east of Barrydowne Road. This is the second year that Ward 8's volunteer organization Community Action Network (CAN) will be recognizing individuals who go the extra mile to help their neighbours or community. Sudbury's Collin Cameron claims biathlon bronze at his very first Paralympics:
Sudbury native Collin Cameron captured a bronze medal in the 7.5-km biathlon at the Paralympics game in PyeongChang last night. 29-year-old Collin started competing merely two years ago and was the only athlete Greater Sudbury sent to the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

Wolves drop the second half of home and home to Battalion
North Bay gave Sudbury one last barrage as the Battalion won the final matchup of the season 4-1. North Bay had won five of the seven games coming in but had only outscored Sudbury by three goals 29-26. But in this game, the rough play carried over from the night before, and Sudbury found themselves in the penalty box for a good chunk of the game. There were 78 penalty minutes in total between the two teams, and North Bay scored twice on the power play in the first period to take the lead, never looking back. Read more on this game here
