Patricia Sorbara, the Ontario Liberal Party campaign director in 2014, won't be part of the election team in 2018, Premier Kathleen Wynne announced Thursday.

Sorbara was charged in the Sudbury byelection scandal that ended in acquittal last fall. It was expected she would again be part of Premier Kathleen Wynne's campaign team, and Sorbara's twitter bio still lists her as 'Managing Co-chair, Ontario Liberal Campaign 2018.'

But late Thursday, Wynne's office issued a statement announcing Sorbara was out for 2018.

“Pat Sorbara will not be joining the campaign team,” the statement said. “However, I will continue to count upon her personal friendship.”

Wynne said that the election team worked hard while Sorbara was facing charges in Sudbury.

“The team that stepped up while Pat was forced to deal with completely unfounded charges in Sudbury came together and gelled in recent months,” the statement said. “This is the team that will take us into the coming election.”
