The Right Rev. Brian Germond and his wife Susan have accepted an invitation to spend time in Sudbury for a visit that will mix business and pleasure.

Bishop Germond is the brother of Sudbury physician Dr. Colin Germond, whose wife, Rev. Anne Germond, is being ordained to the priesthood during the bishopÂ?s visit.

This past weekend, the bishop and his wife were welcomed to a morning service at Church of the Ascension on Sparks Street.

Today, they will be introduced to Northern Ontario rural life at a celebration at St. Francis Church in Mindemoya on Manitoulin Island as Germond will preside at the re-dedication of a major renovation project the congregation recently completed.

On Saturday, May 4, Susan Germond will lead a WomenÂ?s Quit Day on the subject Â?IÂ?m not O.K., YouÂ?re not O.K., but thatÂ?s O.K. because Jesus is O.K.Â?

SudburyÂ?s Church of the Epiphany on Larch Street will host the Germonds on Sunday, May 5 as the bishop will preach at the 10 am service.

The visit to Northern Ontario will come to an end with a return visit to Church of the Ascension on Sunday, May 12 at the churchÂ?s patronal festival (Feast of the Ascension).

The bishopÂ?s visit will include preaching at the ordination to the priesthood of six ordinands of the Anglican Diocese of Algoma, including Rev. Glen Taylor, Rev. Deborah Kraft, Rev. Maureen Hair, Rev. Paul Walmsley, Rev. Mel Binks. and Rev. Anne Germond.

This service will take place at St. LukeÂ?s Cathedral in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday, May 6. Bishop Germond will be the theme speaker during the annual clergy conference being held at the same time. The theme of his lectures will be Â?Prayer and Spirituality From an African Perspective.Â?

Germond was ordained in 1976 and has taught and preached in numerous countries around the world.
