Ward 10's list of candidates continues to grow, with Steve Ripley announcing Sept. 8 he intends to run for the riding.

Ripley, who was born and raised in Greater Sudbury and pursued his education in the Nickel City, is part of a fourth generation to raise a family in the city.

In a press release, Ripley said "like so many of my neighbours, I'm truly tired of the lack of effort from City Council, the misuse of public properties, and the threat to many places of historical significance due to continued apathy from our own local government."

He notes that many historical elements of the city have been lost in the past 50 years, and vows to protect remaining historic sites in Ward 10 should be elected. He stated eco-tourism is one of the best options for the city going forward.

The ward, which is currently held by Frances Caldarelli, covers Lockerby, Lo-Ellen, Kingsmount, Bell Park, and downtown (Elm East). Besides the incumbent, Ripley contends against Fern Cormier and Mark Signoretti for the spot. Mila Wong, who announced earlier this year she would run for the ward, has withdrawn from the race.
