Still time to get your rib fix at Ribfest

It wraps up at 6 p.m. today, so if you were on the fence, get downtown to feed your face

Brothers Kyle and Liam Buckland weren't shy in chowing down on rib at Ribfest on Sunday.

They finished off the ribs while dad, Kevin Buckland, went and got a blooming onion to round out the meal.

They were among thousands of people enjoying Ribfest on Day 3, the final day of the event.

“We've had incredibly positive response on the new site for Ribfest,” said Maureen Luoma, executive director, Downtown Sudbury. “I'd say 99 per cent of the comments have been unsolicited compliments, and it due to a number of reasons. A lot of the comments are about how well it flows in the new location, because it's spaced out nicely. At the previous site, it was a bit cramped. Obviously there are things to tweak for next year, but overall, we're pleased.”

In terms of attendance, Luoma said it's pretty difficult to determine how many people came out over the three days, but she said she figures it was on par with previous years.

“Last year, we were a bit over 55,000 people, and we might be down a little bit this year, but it was still strong and steady, and I'd suggest we'd be in the high 40,000s or 50,000 people,” she said.

People from other parts of the world, let alone parts of the province or even Canada, were at Ribfest, she said.

“We had people here from Greece,” she said. “I'd like to think they came here specifically for Ribfest, but probably not. But it was certainly good value added fun for them.”

Ribfest, at its new location on Minto Street beside the Sudbury Arena, wraps up at 6 p.m. today.

Before that, though, votes will be counted for the various trophies handed out to the professional rib teams. Sudbury.com will publish the results soon.
