Stronger Ontario NDP team ready to deliver results: Horwath

Ontario's NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said her party is ready to work on the challenges facing communities across the province.

Ontario's NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said her party is ready to work on the challenges facing communities across the province.

Horwath addressed the Association of Municipalities of Ontario in her first public speech since winning two key byelections in Ontario’s southwest.

“A lot has happened in Ontario politics in the last month,” Horwath said. “What hasn’t changed is that New Democrats will continue working hard to deliver jobs, strengthen health care, make life more affordable and hold the government’s feet to the fire. Ontario families don’t care about who scores political points. They want results.”

In her keynote address to more than 1,600 municipal leaders — including Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk and councillors Fabio Belli, Claude Berthiaume, Doug Craig, Evelyn Dutrisac, Terry Kett and Andre Rivest — Horwath addressed a number of the challenges facing families across Ontario.

“Voters sent a strong message this summer that they want leaders at Queen’s Park who will deliver for them,” said Horwath. “Whether it’s stable funding for municipalities, investing fairly in transit and transportation or creating jobs, I’m here to listen to municipal leaders about how we can create prosperity that every Ontarian can share in.”

New Democrats have a unique and intimate knowledge of municipal issues with two former mayors, a former deputy mayor and five former councillors and school board trustees currently serving in the caucus.
