The Huntington University Communication Society (HUCS), along with the Student General Association (SGA) at Laurentian University, will be hosting a 30-hour famine to raise money and awareness to support World Vision and its quest to stop hunger amongst children.

More than 100 students are expected to participate in this fundraising event, scheduled to be held at Laurentian's SGA student centre, located at 935 Ramsey Lake Rd.

The famine will begin at noon on March 23 and end on March 24 at 6 pm.

With the help of the SGA, HUCS will be raising awareness and giving out donation packages within the Laurentian student body as well as within the City of Greater Sudbury.

All donations collected will be donated to World Vision, an organization that helps starving children in Third World countries.

Respect is Burning Supper Club will be providing all participants with a feast after completing the fast.

The 30-hour event will involved local live bands, comedy routines, poetry readings, international films, short plays and other entertainment.

A goal of $5,000 has been set.

Member of the community are invited to stop by the Laurentian campus between 6 pm and 1 am and 11 am and 5 pm during the event to cheer on the participants.
