Sudbury's scientists of tomorrow will be competing at the Sudbury Regional Science Fair April 6-7, at Laurentian University's Cliff Fielding Innovation, Research and Engineering building.

The science fair is open to students in grades 7 to 12 from across the Sudbury region.

A public viewing takes place Saturday, April 6 from 1-4 p.m.

These students will be presenting their findings with the hope of being selected for the Canada-Wide Science Fair, taking place in Fredericton, NB, from May 11-18.

In a press release, the Rainbow board said a number of its students qualified for the event through its board-wide science fair March 5.

“I am always amazed at the complexity of the research that is carried out in all areas – be it earth sciences, physics, or engineering,” said Rainbow District School Board director of education Norm Blaseg, in the press release.

“Student projects are a tribute to the ability of our young scientists to let their instinctive curiosity guide them as they observe, question and explore the world around them. We wish all students continued success as they vie for a chance to compete nationally.”

In addition to being an opportunity to engage in "authentic learning," the competition is hosted with the goal of enhancing scientific skills and developing interest in a science-related career, said a press release.
