More than 80,000 Canadians are expected to join forces on Sunday, Oct. 1 for the 26th annual Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure.

The event – taking place in 56 locations from coast to coast, including at Cambrian College in Sudbury – is the largest, single-day, volunteer-led event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, support services, health education and advocacy programs.

On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the local CIBC Run for the Cure Committee hosted their event launch with one of their local sponsors – Cambrian Ford. President of Cambrian Ford, Scott McCullough, has been supporting the event in Sudbury for 19 years, and presented the Canadian Cancer Society with a $2,000 cheque for this year’s event.

Breast cancer survivor Kathy Beck shared her journey with breast cancer.

“One year ago, I stood here having just completed my chemotherapy for stage three cancer diagnosis. Today, I am happy to tell you I am completely cancer free and healthy," said Beck.

"I am richly blessed through this process by being surrounded by loving and caring family and friends who have supported me throughout.”

Kathy and her supportive team ‘Fight Like A Girl’ raised more than $1,500 last year for the CIBC Run for the Cure.

Claudio Roberti, Business Development Manager with CIBC, spoke at the event launch on behalf of CIBC: “This year, CIBC is marking it’s 21st year of partnership in support of the CIBC Run for the Cure for breast cancer.

Our commitment started with our employees, and over two decades has grown exponentially, because our team continues to care deeply about creating a future without breast cancer.”

The local 2017 CIBC Run for the Cure Committee invites all of Sudbury to make their promise to change the future of breast cancer by registering or donating to the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, at CIBCRunfortheCure.com.
