Sudbury's World Suicide Prevention Day committee has been hard at work over the last several months on thei upcoming event to be held on Sept. 10 in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day.

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) takes place ever year on Sept. 10, which is a date recognized internationally as a day to bring awareness to suicide prevention and postvention, and to also recognize those lost to suicide and those left behind.

The North East Suicide Prevention Network’s fourth Annual WSPD event will take place this year at the Elizabeth Gazebo, Bell Park (off Elizabeth St), on Sunday, Sept. 10th, starting at 4:30 p.m.

"This year, we are partnering with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and the N’Swakamok Kweok Hand Drummers, and will be doing a one hour concert as part of the "Mysterious Barricades" coast to coast concert series, raising awareness about mental health and suicide," said a news release from the North East Suicide Prevention Network.

"This free, live streamed concert series will be 21 hours long, featuring 15 Canadian cities/locations, beginning at sunrise in Newfoundland, and ending with sunset on the British Columbia coast."

Numerous groups and organizations in communities across Canada, all devoted to suicide awareness and prevention, will be part of this
endeavour.

"We are so excited that Sudbury and the North East Suicide Prevention Network will be a part of it this year, and that people across the country will see and hear how important suicide awareness and prevention is to our community," said the release.

"We're also thankful to have two local individuals speaking during the event, Gerry Lougheed Jr. and Joshua Tillson."

As with past year's events, there will be a free BBQ and a butterfly release. Butterflies to be sold for $10 each on site, or in advance at the Canadian Mental Health Association office on Elm Street in Sudbury.

NESPN t-shirts will also again be sold on site for $10 each.
