This month, and possibly next month, if there's still a need, a Sudbury author is donating the royalties from her books to the Canadian Red Cross in support of relief efforts in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

“I couldn't sit and do nothing, not after seeing the videos and images of the city,” Kristan Cannon said in an email to Sudbury.com.

“All I could imagine was how horrible it must be to have to pack up and leave everything behind, knowing that you'll likely never see your home again.”

Cannon said she grew up in North Bay, which is the same size as Fort McMurray. “I couldn't imagine it happening to North Bay,” she said.

She's the author of two books, “After Oil” and “The Last Iron Horse.” An upcoming book in the same series is set to be released this fall, called “Between Silence and Fire.”

The books can be purchased online through Amazon, as well as Chapters, Barnes & Noble and Waterstones in the UK in both hardcover and trade paperback, and in e-book on every major platform.

E-books are available on Amazon, but also on Kobo (Chapters), Nook (B&N), Apple iBooks and Google Play.
