While many kids his age spend their summers working part-time jobs, hanging out with friends, or playing video games, 18-year-old Aidan Sheppard spends his summers in Ottawa at Connaught National Army Cadet Summer Training Camp.

A previous course cadet in the Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor program at Connaught, Sheppard has now spent the last two summers as a staff cadet at the training centre.

Sheppard spends six days a week assisting officers and other staff members with manual labour around the training centre. His work ethic, leadership skills, and dress and deportment did not go unnoticed.

For the second year in a row, Sheppard was honoured with the Top Senior Staff Cadet award at the recent main graduation parade on Aug. 13. The award was presented by the reviewing officer, Commodore B.W.N Santarpia, CD.

Sheppard has had a stellar cadet career. He is the recipient of many medals, awards, and honours.

In June 2015, he was named the Most Outstanding Cadet with his corps Admiral Mountbatten Sea Cadets for the second year in a row. On July 1, 2015, Sheppard was one of 14 cadets selected to participate in the Raising of the Flag ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
