With the clock ticking toward the Ontario Liberal Party’s leadership election later this month, candidate Bonnie Crombie has secured a handful of endorsements from Greater Sudburians.

“It is an honour to be trusted by so many Liberals in Northern Ontario,” Crombie said in a media release. “Liberals in the North have one, simple goal: to take down Doug Ford and his crony Conservatives.”

Local endorsements include:

  • Rick Bartolucci, former cabinet minister and MPP for Sudbury
  • Marianne Matichuk, former mayor of the City of Greater Sudbury
  • Gilles Proulx, former OLP Candidate for Nickel-Belt
  • Natalie Labbée, city councillor, City of Greater Sudbury

“Having served Northern Ontario for years, I can confidently say that Bonnie is the best candidate to address the unique needs of our region,” Bartolucci said. “Her deep understanding of our challenges and unwavering commitment to proactive policies make her the ideal advocate for a stronger Northern Ontario. Let’s rebuild the party with Bonnie!”

Matichuk said Crombie carries knowledge of municipalities, which should serve her well.

“I worked with Bonnie when I was the first elected female mayor of Sudbury and found her to be a true leader who is extremely intelligent, strategic, straightforward, caring and most of all, brings people together,” she said.

Bonnie Crombie is the third-term mayor of Mississauga, a mother of three, and was a business executive and previously served as a Liberal Member of Parliament and as a city councillor.

Party members will cast ranked ballots from Nov. 25-26, and an announcement of the Ontario Liberal Party’s new leader will take place on Dec. 2 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Alongside Crombie, candidates include Nate Erskine-Smith, Ted Hsu and Yasir Naqvi.
