Sudbury man charged with second degree murder

A 26-year-old Sudbury man has been charged with second-degree murder after an investigation into a June 11 altercation on Beech Street. On June 12, at approximately 4 p.m.

A 26-year-old Sudbury man has been charged with second-degree murder after an investigation into a June 11 altercation on Beech Street.

On June 12, at approximately 4 p.m., members of Emergency Medical Services responded to an address on Beech Street in regards to man who was unresponsive and possibly deceased.

Upon arrival, it was confirmed the man, 60-year-old Gary Trif, was dead.

In conjunction with the Coroner’s Officer, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service's Criminal Investigations Unit and the Forensic Unit commenced an investigation into the death.

On June 13, while the investigation was in its initial phase, 26-year-old Edward Harvey Boucher turned himself in.

He was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm, as a result of an altercation he had with Triff on June 11. Boucher was also charged with assaulting a second person during the same incident.

On June 15, a post-mortem examination was conducted on Triff and based on this examination, it was determined the victim died as a result of the injuries he sustained during the alleged assault by Boucher.
