The family of a Sudbury man who must stay in Ottawa to wait for a heart transplant is appealing to the public for donations to help defray his living expenses.

Gordon Phillip Kane, a former CP Rail worker, has suffered from heart failure since the early 1990s. His wife, Heather Kane, is joining him in Ottawa while he waits.

“As I am sure your aware, that leaving your city for another can be very costly, not to mention all the expenses that his wife Heather Kane will have to spend for staying in Ottawa to be close to her husband,” Kane's son-in-law, Hughie Jeanveau, wrote NorthernLife.ca in an e-mail.

People can learn more about donating by going to www3.sympatico.ca/braedon04/Gordon.html.

The family hopes to raise $30,000. They are also planning a dinner and silent auction fundraiser for July, although the details are not yet confirmed.

Anyone wishing to donate items for the dinner and silent auction is asked to e-mail Jeanveau at [email protected].
