Sudbury MP Glenn Thibeault is arriving in Alberta today to begin a week of living the life of a Canadian soldier preparing to head into combat and peacekeeping situations.

Thibeault is taking part in the Parliamentary Program, which is run by the Canadian Forces. It allows members of parliament to put aside their business suits and don fatigues, helmets and tactical vests. They go through physical training and testing and are educated on military life.

During his week in Alberta, Thibeault will be blogging about the unique experience with Greater Sudbury residents, using Northern Life’s new blogging platform. You can visit his blog at www.NorthernLife.ca/blogs/glenn_thibeault.

“Sudbury is no different from other cities across Canada,” Thibeault said. “Each has mourned the loss of brave men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving overseas.”

In preparation for the physical rigors of his training, Thibeault said he has been running and doing pushups daily. He said he was eager to get started.

“Getting to know more about what our soldiers go through and what life is like for them is a small way of showing my respect and gratitude for what they do and the sacrifices they have made.”
