Residents of Sudbury and Northeastern Ontario are being invited to support the Northern Cancer Foundation in collaboration with the Terry Ames Care Fund.

The bi-annual fundraiser is on again in Sudbury and this year it features an early bird draw that organizers are hoping will give a boost to local ticket sales.

Ames said the early bird sales deadline is coming at the end of the month with the early bird prize being a Softub-brand six-person hot tub.

As good as that is, he said, the winner of the early bird prize will see their ticket go right back into the draw for any of the other main prizes or  the grand prize, a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss pickup truck.

The event began in 2015 and has been a local success thanks to the generosity of the residents of Sudbury and Northeastern Ontario, said Ames.

"The Terry Ames Care Fund at the Northern Cancer Foundation was set up to help families who needed financial help so that they could focus on beating cancer. As important as this charity is to raise money for families fighting cancer, its success has more to do with helping to inspire patients and their families and creating hope where it often can be lost," said the website for online ticket sales.

"We always have a challenge of people waiting until the end of September to buy their tickets. So we said, ’Let's do an early bird and try and get some more tickets sold earlier’," said Sudbury businessman Terry Ames, who is a cancer survivor and chief organizer of the initiative.

He said Sudbury residents are always generous but the push is on to move tickets early.

"We really want to sell out. And our goal is to raise $100,000 for the charity," Ames explained.

The final draw, according to the rules on the website, is to take place on October 7, 2023 at 10 a.m.
