Sudbury Speaks: Obama has Canada's support

In a decidedly unscientific poll of a mere handful of Sudburians, it seems that U.S. President Barack Obama has the overwhelming support of Canadians.

In a decidedly unscientific poll of a mere handful of Sudburians, it seems that U.S. President Barack Obama has the overwhelming support of Canadians.

Although Northern Life asked only about a dozen people in the downtown core how they would vote, if they could vote in the U.S. election, the answers we received dovetailed with the polling results from Canada's largest public opinion firms.

The most recent, a random poll of 1,735 Canadians conducted by Forum Research for the National Post, found that 78 per cent of respondents would vote for Barack Obama, while the same percentage would rather have the Obamas as neighbours than the Romneys.

Around 68 per cent of respondents felt that an Obama presidency was better for the Canadian economy.

Angus Reid conducted a similar poll last week, asking both Canadian and British citizens who their preferred candidate was.

Again, Obama came out as the clear favourite, with a seven-to-one preference among Canadians and a 10-to-one preference among Britons.

Even going back to July when HarrisDecima asked Canadians which candidate they preferred, seven of 10 Canadians were very clear: Obama was their guy.

Follow the election action tonight to see if U.S. voters agree.
