Sudbury's Madison Kvaltin is taking place in the final of the Miss Intercontinental Pageant in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Oct. 16.

The first-year sociology student at Queen's University has been in Sri Lanka taking part in the international pageant since Oct. 4. At 18 years old, she's the youngest of the 77 contestants.

This past spring, Kvaltin, a recent Lockerby Composite school graduate, was named Miss North Ontario Regional Canada.

In the summer, she competed in the Top Model Canada pageant, and was named Miss Intercontinental Canada, which gave her the opportunity to participate in the Miss Intercontinental pageant.

Madison's mom, Monique, said she's been in frequent communication with her daughter. The teen told her mom it's been the trip of a lifetime.

In between sightseeing and pageant activities, she's had to keep up with her schoolwork from Queen's.

“We're super proud of her,” Monique said. “We never dreamed she would be representing Canada on a national scale.”
