A severe thunderstorm watch for Greater Sudbury has been upgraded to a warning as of 4:45 p.m. July 9.

Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Greater Sudbury at 4:05 p.m. on July 9.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Isolated thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
