Team Canada goes big at Pan-Am

The Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games will be the largest international multi-sport event ever hosted on Canadian soil. It only makes sense that Canada would send their largest collection of athletes ever assembled for such an event.

The Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games will be the largest international multi-sport event ever hosted on Canadian soil.

It only makes sense that Canada would send their largest collection of athletes ever assembled for such an event.

In total, more than 700 athletes will don Canadian colours to compete from July 10 to July 26. Among those 700, 274 athletes will represent the host province of Ontario, along with 27 Ontario coaches.

That's a total of 37 per cent of Canada's athletes who will be competing in their home province, looking to win gold for their nation.

Some of the province's top talent on display at the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games will include:

Rosie MacLennan (King City), 2012 Olympic gold medalist & defending Pan Am Games gold medalist, Karen Cockburn (Stouffville) - three time Olympic medalist and Jason Burnett (Nobleton) 2008 Olympic silver medalist for gymnastics - trampoline.

Two-time Olympian Crispin Duenas (Scarborough), winner of individual silver medal at Guadalajara 2011 Pan Am Games for archery.

Michelle Li (Markham) - 2011 Pan Am Games gold medalist, Rachel Honderich (Toronto) - 2014 Pan American Championships silver medalist, Alexandra Bruce (Toronto) 2011 Pan Am Games gold medalist (doubles) for badminton.

Four-Time Olympic medalist Adam van Koeverden (Oakville) and Olympic bronze medalist Mark Oldershaw (Burlington) for canoe/ kayak (sprint).

Ten-time Olympian Ian Millar (Perth) and Jessica Phoenix (Cannington) 2011 Pan American Games gold medalist for equestrian

London 2012 Olympians Melanie McCann (Mount Carmel) and Donna Vakalis (Toronto) for modern pentathlon competition

Ashley Kraayeveld (Mississauga) - 2014 Pan Am Championships gold medalist and Tyler Muscat (Burlington) 2014 Pan Am Championships bronze medalist for taekwondo.

2014 World Champion for bowling Dan MacLelland (Windsor).

Two-time Pan Am Games athlete, and seven-time Pan Am Games medalist, Whitney McClintock (Cambridge) and two-time Pan Am Games medalist, Jason McClintock (Cambridge) for water ski and wakeboard.

Korey Jarvis (Elliot Lak e) 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Tamerlan Tagziev (Toronto) - 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist and 2013 Pan Am Championships silver medalist and Braxton Stone-Papadopoulos (Pickering) - 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and Jevon Balfour (Brampton) - 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist for wrestling.

 
The Pan American Games are the world’s third largest international multi-sport Games.

The Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games will showcase Ontario to an estimated audience of 250,000 visitors and 10,000 athletes and officials from around the world.
