This year's Terry Fox Run takes place in Bell Park Sept. 15.

The event, which begins at 10:30 a.m. at the gazebo near the park's main beach, raises funds for cancer research.

In 2012, millions of Ontarians participated in 225 community runs and 3,900 school events, raising close to $12 million for cancer research.

The events are in memory of Terry Fox, who in 1980 decided to run across Canada on a prosthetic leg to raise funds for cancer research.

After running almost a marathon a day for 143 days, he was forced to stop when his cancer returned in his lungs. He passed away the next year.
