Coffee drinkers unite! Here’s your chance to participate in the Alzheimer Society’s annual Coffee Break event and get your friends on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram involved too.

Starting Sept. 15 through till the end of October, Canadians will gather in communities across the country to share a cup of coffee in exchange for a donation to their local Alzheimer Society.

Each year, Coffee Break events raise over $1 million to support much-needed services and support for people with dementia and their families.

You can participate in Coffee Break from your computer:

Show your “mug shot.” Post a selfie with your coffee mug using the hashtag #RaiseaMug, and say why you’re supporting Alzheimer’s.

Tag and nominate your friends, co-workers and family to #RaiseAMug, too.

Text “coffee” to 45678 to donate $5 to the Alzheimer Society.

Take part in the Coffe Break Instagram challenge and you could be one of four individuals randomly selected for a $25 gift card to Starbucks, Tim Horton’s or McDonald’s.

There are other ways to show your support. Host a Coffee Break in your home, at work or other public venue. Add baked treats or creative activities to attract more participants and raise more money.

With 25,000 new cases of dementia being diagnosed each year, the reality is that you probably know someone or are caring for someone who has Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia.

Between Sept. 2 and 21, walk into your local Bulk Barn, a long-timer supporter of Coffee Break, and purchase a coffee decal. When you buy your decal on Sept. 21, World Alzheimer’s Day, the local store and head office will match your donation.

Now in its 21st year, Coffee Break is the Alzheimer Society’s longest-running fundraiser. It not only raises vital funds, but also rallies communities to talk more openly and better understand dementia and treat people who have it with the dignity and respect they deserve.
