In Sudbury, we are always looking to find ways to be more active and engaged. But with our Northern winters, it isn’t always easy to participate in recreational sports year round. This is especially true if you aren’t much of a skater.
We know the health benefits of being active and exercising; particularly when it comes to our kids. It’s not just about fitness; it’s about building leadership skills and confidence, and learning to be a team player.
Fabio Belli knew that there was a solution to get kids and adults more active and engaged in our community, and he championed a sports bubble that would allow for indoor recreation year round. Now with his passing, the foundation in his name continues to work for his dream to get more kids running and participating in sports year round.
In 2014 the City of Sudbury released a city recreation plan that showed that our community could support a double indoor field, and since then over one thousand people have signed a petition to bring an indoor sports field to Sudbury. I was proud to add my name to that list.
My friend Fabio worked tirelessly so that everyone in Sudbury could have access to the facilities to lead healthier more active lives, and I believe that fulfilling his dream of a year round sports field would do just that.
I will work with city council, the school board, the community, and of course our provincial government to help us achieve this goal and create a new facility that Sudbury families will be able to benefit from.
