Ward 1 Coun. Joe Cimino is outraged by damage and a theft at the Delki Dozzi Playground last weekend.

Sometime on the weekend, thieves broke into a shed behind the ice rink, outside the popular Gatchell facility, causing damage to the entrance doors of the shed and stealing a snowblower.

The damage to the double metal doors is estimated at $1,500, said Cimino.

"The snowblower cost us $2,500 in November 2007. They really had to work at getting inside the shed. They used crowbars, it looks like."

The Delki Dozzi Playground Association had fundraised for the money to purchase both the metal doors and the snowblower last year, said Cimino

"I am extremely disappointed that a community facility would be targeted. The metal doors installed last year with funds raised by the playground association were damaged during the break-in and will need to be replaced."

The snowblower that was taken had been used to maintain the ice rink. Cimino said he heard other playgrounds had been hit during the same time period.

"I would encourage anyone who has information about this theft to please contact Crime Stoppers at 675-TIPS (8477). This theft will have an impact on many users of the facility in this community."
