A group opposed to the province's plan to sell shares in Hydro One is holding an information session Thursday evening.

The Citizens Coalition Against Privatization event will take place from 5-6:30 at the New Sudbury Public Library.

The session will focus “on the effects privatization of Hydro One will have on you and your community and how to help keep public services in public hands,” the group said in a news release.

The group's website, hydronotforsale.ca, describes the coalition as “a broad, non-partisan group of Ontarians working together on this campaign.

“In Ontario, hydro has been in public hands for more than a century,” the group says.

“Experience shows that whenever hydro is privatized, no matter where in the world, the results are disastrous.

“As both consumers and taxpayers, citizens end up suffering. Here in Canada, for example, Nova Scotians are paying more money for less reliable hydro thanks to privatization.”

Pizza and beverages will be served at Thursday's meeting.
