A teenage Timmins boy has reportedly died of H1N1 (swine flu).

On Oct. 15, the Porcupine Health Unit was notified that tests on two individuals were positive for the H1N1 subtype of influenza A in Timmins.

“We have been informed that these tests were conducted on two male adolescents. One of these individuals was hospitalized and we learned this morning that this young person has passed away,” said Dr. Susan Kaczmarek, the medical officer of health for the Porcupine Health Unit, in a press release.

“The second individual is recovering at home.”

Although the health unit press release does not give the exact ages of the boys, media reports indicate they were both about 15 years old.

In the area covered by the Sudbury and District Health Unit, there have been 23 confirmed cases of swine flu so far.
