Tom Hynes to speak at eleventh breakfast series

NORCAT and Northern Ontario Business will present their eleventh breakfast series, entitled Mining Research and the Canadian Mining Innovation Council, on Tuesday, Jan. 15 beginning at 7:15 am.

This series' speaker will be Tom Hynes, director general of the Mining and Mineral Sciences Laboratories at Natural Resources Canada.

Hynes has more than 30 years experience in various aspects of the mining industry. He started his career as a provincial environment officer and from there went to work in the uranium and base metals industries. He has been vice president of the International Council of Metals and the Environment.

Hynes' experience includes regulatory, operational and research roles in the Canadian mining industry, and he has provided technical advice internationally, including leading the international advisory panel to Krygyzstan following the major Kumtor cyanide spill. He is one of the proponents of the concept that became the Canadian Mining Innovation Council and is one of a core group of people from industry, academia and government who are helping to advance it.

Breakfast will take place at Fontaine Blue located inside Cambrian College, Barrydowne campus.

Tickets are 47.25 plus GST and include breakfast.
