Joan Green, distinguished Canadian educator and administrator, who has served as a teacher, principal, superintendent and director of education in the City of Toronto, will be speaking to principals and vice-principals of the Sudbury Catholic District School Board on leadership development.

The presentation will take place April 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Howard Johnson Hotel at 50 Brady St.

In 1995, Green became the founding CEO of the Ontario Education Quality and Accountability Office - an independent agency of government with a mandate to promote accountability and improvement in Ontario's educational system.

She is currently serving as the educational advisor and senior consultant on Canadian Organ Donation Secondary School Curriculum. She is a specialist in customized quality assurance and is a consultant on improvement and quality issues in the public and private sector.

Green will be addressing principals and vice-principals, regarding leadership style within the context of balancing competing leadership priorities.

"Achievement and improvement are not accidents," said Green. "They are the result of hard, data-driven work with huge pay offs. This session will help learning leaders align structure, strategy and culture to create bold dreams set in achievable chunks, organize schools and school systems for students, forge partnerships with parents and communities, provide appropriate resources, both human and material, and monitor through learning leadership in a professional community of reflective practitioners."
